SFT Spotlight

This month we are featuring Matt Hirons as our SFT Spotlight. Matt grew up with horses on his parents’ farm where they bred, raised and trained about 100 horses over the years. He spent much of his childhood riding in all disciplines, working with Welsh ponies, Arabians, quarter horses, thoroughbreds and warm bloods. Matt believes each horse has a purpose and a life path. Whether it’s a calm gentle being taken care of a child, or a free spirit spitfire with wings on his feet that can jump a 6 foot fence. It is Matt’s goal to make every horse he comes in contact with happy and comfortable. Matt says “There’s no greater gift than seeing the improvement in the horse after its saddle has been properly fitted.” Matt is based in Central California and has been with Schleese for 15 years.

Rider Testimonial:
I want to thank the staff for their professionalism at my saddle fitting.  I had such a great learning experience.  The information was presented in a clear manner and all of my questions answered.  I also am amazed at the quick follow up to make sure I was happy with my saddle.  The technology used to build and design these saddles is mind blowing.  My saddle fits my horse so well and I have never been this comfortable riding in my life.  I know my horse is so grateful every time I put the saddle on and off.  Horsemanship has been my life passion and I can not stress enough how this saddle has changed my life.  I would encourage anyone to have a fitting to access a saddle you own or to purchase a Schleese saddle for the comfort of yourself and especially for your horse. Thank you so much!

Where is Jochen?
August was a relatively quiet month for Jochen, with only one New England trip together with Karen and Chris M. However – the exciting news is that the Saddlefit 4 Life online academy is now live at! Sonja Gagnon has done a fantastic job to get this project delivered on time!
PBS was up from the US filming us and the Irwins for a short educational vignette introduced by Laurence Fishburne for one of their ‘interval fillers’ on August 7. After returning from his trip to New England, Jochen was a guest lecturer at Guelph for the ISES conference (International Society for Equitation Sciences) – well received to many accolades to the 200+ attendees despite the extremely hot weather!
August also saw Sabine competing in the Can Am Dance Championships in Toronto (renewed hobby for the Schleese family!) where she won in both rhythm and smooth categories. (View photo in “Closing Stitches”)
September is the start to slowly ramping up for the insane travel schedule of the fall; Jochen and Miriam will be heading to Florida on a public relations trip from Sept 5-9, and then the Ontario intensive Equine Ergonomist course begins at home, together with Murielle from California as TA, and Sonja as course coordinator. Jochen heads to Germany for a short trip Sept 20-25 to certify some more Saddle Ergonomists there, and then end of the month he will be back home for a few days.
September Birthdays
This month we are wishing Keith (1st) and Kyle (2nd) a very happy birthday!

I just wanted to update you on the special HK Plus that you made for my horse and me. Although I was not 100% convinced the day that we tried the new saddle out at Christiane's, I can honestly say that we both love it now. It feels very nice for me and Devoto seems to be working better from behind. Steffen (Peters) was able to ride in it finally and he was impressed too. He felt that it was the best Schleese saddle that he had ridden in because it has some of the flexibility that he likes in a saddle as compared to his. His seat did not fit in the female crafted seat so he was not personally comfortable in it, but I can't say that it matters to me because it fits me beautifully :-))) Thank you for your attention to detail, and to working so patiently and generously with me to find the right solution for my horse, we both truly appreciate it.

— Kimberly Cook & Devoto - Toyon Farm Yountville, CA
